Default Wanted: Aerial rotator

Wanted, an aerial rotator. It is for normal 'domestic' use, not heavy duty ham use or anything like that. I had one for years, never got around to using it and eventually sold it quite a few years ago now. Please PM me directly if you can help, thanks. I am aware of Ebay.

Unfortunately Ed's offer is not what I'm looking for, so still looking for pukka rotator and control box.

The cheapest lightweight ones are a couple of hundred. For example https://www.radioworld.co.uk/sharman...ntenna-rotator

I use a rotator exactly like that for my Wellbrook magnetic loop, from back in the day where they were operated by a simple box with a knob. Now they seem to all have some sort of software control - which seems to be a recipe for digital hash up the receiver.

You're aware of eBay. Did you spot the one for 80?

Good luck

Thanks for pointing that out Craig, radioworld is about 8 miles from me, so something to consider. For now, I'm in no particular hurry so I'll see if anything turns up on here. Cheers.

I've had a light duty one sitting stored in the loft for the past 30+ years. Second hand at a radio rally, intended for domestic use, maybe to turn a TV antenna or a 2ele bem for bandII FM radio. The problem is getting it to you. It was one of those things seen so cheap I picked it up in case I found a use for it. So FOC. Finding it is the other problem. It may be a layer or two deep.

It does. There's a lump of 3-core cable from rotator to controller and a mains cable out of thwe controller.

It's crude. it relies on a synchronous motor in both the bell and the control box staying in step. No servoes, no feedback.

I was looking for something similar. As an alternative to buying a ready made unit, I had considered adapting a car electric window motor/mechanism. I would imagine it should have sufficient torque capability and thus well suited for the job. It think it would make a good project.

Symon

So in use what are its drawbacks Vs the improvements you mention? I'm not looking for whizz and specs, but something that does the job. Cheers.

It's a commercial unit, sold in droves for light use, but there is nothing definite to prevent the indicator in the control unit getting out of step with the antenna direction. But they seem to work.
