Default 2023 Milton Keynes Radio Rally, Sunday August 27th

The 2023 Milton Keynes radio rally will be on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 27th.

Opening time 09:00
Admission £3 including parking.

Note that this is a NEW VENUE - the previous site is now a football pitch.
The new field is of similar size to the old one, the hall for indoor traders is larger, and parking is better.

Location:
Heron’s Lodge Guide Activity Centre,
Bradwell Road, Loughton Lodge, Milton Keynes, MK8 9AA.
(Opposite the National Badminton Centre - Follow the brown shuttlecock signs)

NGR: SP833383
Site entrance co-ordinates: 52.037491°, -0.785068°

There will be traders / boot sellers in a large field and indoors in the hall.

Outdoor pitches are £10 on the day and indoor tables can be pre-booked at £15.
Sellers' setup from 07:00

----------

And afterwards:

The National Museum of Computing (at Bletchley Park, but a fully independent museum) is only 6 miles away and is open from 1030 - 1700, well worth a visit after leaving the rally. Includes the famous working rebuilds of the WW2 Colossus (all valve electronic) and Bombe (electromechanical) computing machines, plus a very large exhibition of computers dating from 1945 to the present day - many of them working.

See http://www.tnmoc.org/ for details.
Note from TNMOC site: "We do recommend you book online in advance of your visit but we also welcome visitors on the day. " ( i.e. it's OK to just turn up ).

Here are some directions:

Milton Keynes has a network of fast roads on a rectangular grid pattern. The crosspoint junctions all have roundabouts; some have been fitted with additional traffic lights.

FROM M1:
Leave at junction 14 and take the A509 Westbound "Milton Keynes" (RIGHT / 3rd exit if coming from North, LEFT / 1st exit if from South)
after 400 yds:
RIGHT at next (Northfield) roundabout "A509, Central MK"
follow A509 H5 Portway, Westbound (STRAIGHT ON at next 8 roundabouts) for 3.3 miles
RIGHT at North Grafton roundabout (V6 Grafton Street, Northbound)
after 700 yds:
LEFT at next roundabout (H4 Dansteed Way, Westbound)
after 1000 yds (passing over railway & A5 bridges):
3rd LEFT turn into Bradwell Road "Loughton Lodge / Badminton Centre"
then 450 yds to venue

FROM A5:
The A5 runs through Milton Keynes as a fast dual carriageway.
A Satnav will most likely tell you to use the A509 junction, but it is expected to be closed for roadworks. Instead, use the next junction, 1.2 miles to the North of it, signposted for "MK North" or "MK North and West" (also for Bedford and A422).
Take 4th exit if coming from North, 1st exit if from South (signs for "Wymbush") onto V5 Great Monks Street
after 0.7 miles:
LEFT at Lodge roundabout onto H4 Dansteed Way "Loughton Lodge"
after 400 yds:
1st RIGHT turn into Bradwell Road "Loughton Lodge / Badminton Centre"
then 450 yds to venue

--

on leaving:

for M1:
RIGHT at the end of the road
RIGHT at the first roundabout
LEFT at the next roundabout
follow A509 H5 Portway (STRAIGHT ON at next 8 roundabouts, then LEFT at Northfield roundabout) to M1 junction 14 (3.5 miles)

FOR A5:
LEFT at end of road
after 400 yds:
RIGHT at the first roundabout onto V5, Great Monks Street
after 0.7 miles:
Turn onto A5 at the junction (2nd exit for North, 5th exit for South)

Thanks Dave. I looked it up on my satnav yesterday as the site is cut off by the dual carriageway running close by! Hope to visit, been sorting out some stuff today!

I hope to see you there Rob.

Although the roadworks are scheduled to start this weekend it's possible that they may not begin until later in the week, but best to follow my directions to be sure.

I checked the route today and noticed that some of the road signs are obscured by foliage. Keep a good lookout for them! The wonderful landscaping around the roads here can be a mixed blessing...

Thanks to all who attended. It's a very nice site, and the rain held off until the afternoon.
