Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of repairing this Micro 1" TV ?

I bought one last year, advertised as fully working, but it wasn't.

The Radio worked fine, in fact it was excellent, very sensitive.
The TV powered up Ok, and had the expected Black & White Static.
Unfortunately, it was unable to pick up or tune in to any VHF or UHF signal.
Then the Vertical deflection seemed to pack up and just has a Horizontal Line showing now.

Bought another one recently, also advertised as fully working.
Once again, Radio worked fine, TV powered up, had expected Static but once again wouldn't receive any signal.
Only tested this one on UHF at the moment.
Is this a common fault on this Model ?

Would have expected JVC to have been more reliable.
Both my Sinclair TV1B's work flawlessly.

Can't seem to find any information on this TV.
No Service Manual or Schematics seem to be available.

Can't imagine this TV would be straightforward to fix even if I can find Service info.

Hi Ian,
What are you using as a signal source? You will have to generate either a UHF or VHF signal using a modulator and a signal source such as a dvd player.

There are no longer any analogue TV broadcasts on UHF that this TV can receive.

If you get 'snow' on the screen, then it's likely that the TV is actually working fine: it just needs the correct signal!

Hi Nick,

My Signal Source is Mikey405's Test Card CD running through a Modulator.
Tried VHF & UHF on Two different Modulators and even tested this on other Analogue TV's
so the little JVC is definitely faulty.

Yes, I know it's an Analogue TV.

That's part of the problem, Sellers often describe their TV's as fully working but then say
"but you won't get a signal now Analogue is switched off"
I point out to them, that fully working means they should work if fed with an Analogue Signal, but most just don't get it.

So that's Two of them I have now with the same fault by the looks of it.
Got my Money back last year on the first one though.

Didn't really want to go down the fixing route on this JVC, I just wanted a working one.

Still, a Schematic would be nice, but I can't seem to find one.

Well,

I haven't managed to find any information on this little JVC yet!
There simply doesn't seem to be any Service information out there.

Something might turn up eventually, but in the meantime I thought
I would open it up and just have a look for anything obvious.

It was fairly straight forward to open.
Two Screws on the back behind the Battery Module.
Two Screws on the Left side and One on the Right.
Remove Tuning and Volume Control Knobs on the Front and slide off front Panel.

I found it easier to remove the lower Case first, although not essential.
The Top Case was a little more tricky. It needs to be prised apart from the Switch
Panel during removal as the panel is connected directly to the Circuit Board.
The Telescopic Antenna also needs to be raised.
Top Panel then lifts off over the Telescopic Antenna.

Once inside, it's a Work of Art!

No idea really where to start on this, but I guess I will just have to feed in a Signal at
the Antenna and try to trace where is goes, and one assumes where it Stops when it shouldn't.

Fixing a Fault when/if found will be interesting though.

The required circuit although apparently not on the above service info search link, is in the Newnes Radio and TV servicing book series, book 80/81 page 97.

I have the schematic for the JVC P-100UKC (just the circuit diagram) which came with the unit when I bought it back in the early 80's. I can send you some photos or you can download them from here -

Interestingly, for my unit (which I am about to put up for sale ) the TV seems to work fine (although I dont have a modulator) however the radio does not, lots of white noise but sadly it doesn't detect anything AM or FM ? Any ideas ?

Hi SuperScope,

Please find the Service Manual enclosed for the JVC P-100EUC Micro-TV.
Also details about the power connector (often asked question).

Reliability: this is not JVC's best! i have one which needed pretty extensive "recapping" of electrolytics (by a service shop, circa 2004, i was lazy).

If you want a really reliable 2" B&W micro-TV + AM/FM radio, the Orion TVR-7120 and its numerous clones are amazing, 90% of the lot i own (many) still work after 40 years.
Usually just the TV/Radio mode switch needs DeoXit/Servisol/KF cleaning.
