'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
I have just brought a 'Boots' model 2006 with a BSR belt drive deck that is running a bit slow. It has been stored away for some years so I intend to try a new belt (the old one measures app 420mm cir.? I will need a replacement stylus at some time so if this could also be identified?

Re: BSR record player deck identification.
Doubt that a new belt will cure.
There is a speed knob isn't there? |

Re: BSR record player deck identification.
No only bass treble volume balance. I don't want to throw good money after bad. Is it unlikely a new belt will fix the problem as I have rang the person to tell them and will take it back.
Is there any speed adjustment controls somewhere else? |

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
All record players have a speed control, otherwise how do you select 33, 45, etc?

I meant fine adjustment.
It has a strobe so it must be adjustable https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...2&d=1390920165 |

That deck is a BSR P267. Recently discussed here. One of the worst, the belt will need replacing by now, but the speed selector was unreliable from the word go. I'd look for something better. Or at least you may be able to swap the deck chassis for a better one if the cabinet is deep enough.

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
Thanks Ben
Upon reading the article about the C/S conversion it seems that there are individual speed controls for 45 AND 33 under the deck. |

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
Those decks just look better than they really are and could not be nastier. It all depends on what you want from the player. It might be OK for occasional use on 45s, but nothing more. Why get a refund and buy something a bit better and more easily serviced? If you want cheap stereo, there are a lot of HMV/Ferguson/Ultra (All Thorn Group) units from the late 1960s with detachable speakers on the auction sites. Edward

I really don't have the time or expertise to swap chassis. It does have 33/45 speeds. Sounds like the selector may be at fault, Is there any fine speed adjustment? It was advertised with no faults. Last edited by DiamondDogs; 29th Feb 2016 at 1:27 pm. |

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
I'd re-sell it with a clear explanation of the fault. Go buy something like an HMV 2025 Stereo player (c. £20) often seen in the listings and one on now. It has a "proper" BSR deck. Edward

EH (Charles?) At least it will be saleable, but I only play occasional 45s and 33s so will persevere with it and see how it performs. It is just a joy at the moment as I have been without a deck for sooo long. Thanks again all, fabulous forum!! |

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
At least you got some progress.
Stylus is a Tetrad, I think there was a T30MD single tip and T3MD/ T5MD which had two. I think the 'HD' types will also work, but not 100% sure!

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
My recommendation is to clean the speed select switch, you will probably find the speed varies if you wiggle it, caused by high resistance from dirty contacts. This was the main cause of problems with these decks, and very early in their life as well.
I would only adjust the speed after cleaning the switch contacts. The strobe is fake on these I believe, just for show. You can download a strobe disc if you want to set it accurately. |

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
Thanks. I will try that, but now adjusted both 45 and 33 to sound there or thereabouts, (2 separate variable adj on pcb). I assume the strobe is fake only a red led.
Will clean retry and poss get a disc. Just waiting for 2.5/3.5 jack to link up with a system to play through, then will try and get it all set up. |

Re: 'Boots' model 2006 (BSR)
You'll need a 3.5mm jack for Stereo. Edward
