Default Grundig TK147 hi-fi open reel

Hi everyone, advice please if you can.
I have a Grundig TK147, which works fine, I've purchased a Grundig microphone which is for the TK147 but when i try to record nothing records so
1) How can i check the microphone is working?
2) if the microphone is working what else could the problem be?
Thank you all in anticipation.

Hi Trevor,

1. When you select Record does the Record pilot lamp light up under the "Automatic" ?

2. Bad contact on Play/Record switch possibly.

3. Bias Oscillator not working possibly , does it erase a previous recording ?

4. Do you have a scope ? to check out the microphone signal through the record amp and also the Bias Oscillator operation.

Forgot to ask if you monitor the recording in real time by turning up the volume control do you hear any sound coming into the microphone, also if the microphone is live/working with the volume turned up high, as well as monitoring the recording you will almost certainly get loud howl/acoustic feedback if the microphone is anywhere near the recorder.
