Sony TC-110 rewind not staying down
Got one of these Sony tc-110 and changed the belt and it plays fine
But the rewind and FF buttons won’t stay down. Took it apart and the locking bar for these two controls don’t have the hook to lock them in place. Yet the play and record do have the locking hook Is this normal that the buttons don’t lock ? Could both rewind and FF have the locking hook worn or broken off ? Pls see photo |

Re: Sony TC-110 rewind not staying down
Reading the User manual for rewind and FF it says press the button slightly or lock it down, then stop the tape when desired.
So from that it reads as if the buttons should stay down when pressed fully down. Of course on some cassette machines those buttons do not lock down. David |

It’s possible that this was a change during production, or it was modified e.g. for use in a school.

Thanks. Have seen a YouTube video of it locking but looking at the slider I can’t see that it’s worn as it still has black dried grease. Must be an early non locking one.

Re: Sony TC-110 rewind not staying down
Small hacksaw blade should sort that one out!
I always found it annoying when manufacturers didn't have locking fast wind controls. As if we've nothing better to do than stand there for three minutes holding it down while a c90 rewinds! Some Philips and Sanyo models I have owned, bizarrely, had locking rewind and non-locking FF. I suppose one uses rewind more often and for longer periods, but still, it's a lousy design IMO that may be to hide the fact they have no proper auto stop.

Re: Sony TC-110 rewind not staying down
In part of an owners manual I'm looking at (a TC-110 not a TC-110A) you have to keep the rewind key depressed.
The mech. in the photo in Post#1 looks to be correct. Lawrence. |

My Post # 2 was referenced from the TC-110A manual.

Re: Sony TC-110 rewind not staying down
Thank you all. Unfortunately I stripped it find the answer and it’s definitely not supposed to lock so must be the tc-110 version. Check out the photo
Now to put it back together. 😂 |
