Thanks Bob,

That's just like one of the variety I saw and at that price it's not worth fiddling about trying to make one. I'll order one today from whichever place seems to offer the best deal.

This maybe slightly off OT, but regarding solder fumes, I have several spools of solder that I got many years ago and have recently finished one of them off. The next spool I took gives off a lot more smoke then the previous one.

I have never given much thought to solder fumes, except that some I used years ago had a rather pleasant smell, the one I am using now doesn't smell bad but I may need to use a small fan to see what I am doing sometimes.

I also remember when solder used to smell quite pleasant.
A few years ago, I suddenly found that I had almost comletely lost my soldering skills overnight - I just couldn't do it any more. Then someone on here mentioned that the 60/4 tin/lead solder was no longer sold and the new lead-free stuff was not as good. I looked at my new roll and, sure enough, it was lead free. I quickly located some 60/40 solder and found I could indeed, solder again!
Despite being banned in the EEC, it is still available online, but I always use the Smoke Extractor to take away the fumes these days.

bathroom extractor fan, if so i would love to know just how you did it .

Enthoven made a solder that smelt of incense, bit like the stuff that sells well in Glastonbury. It made a change from Ersin Multicore but I only had one small reel of it(60's) Les.

Ah, duplicate threads; see

My homebrew extractor has been in use a while now and very happy with it.
