Columbia Grafonola, but which one?
Hi, This is my first post. I have a small collection of Grafonolas but my latest addition has left me puzzled. It is a floor standing gramophone and it is fitted with an American No.6 soundbox/reproducer. Can anyone help identify which model it is and when it may have been made. I will try to attach images.

Re: Columbia Grafonola, but which one?
I have found Ian Calderbank's web site very helpful. There is an email address button for questions at the end of his homepage. From my description he identified a 1929 HMV I used to own.

Re: Columbia Grafonola, but which one?
Hi Folks, Just a quick update on what we know so far.
Someone suggested I look at the motor as a British Columbia would have a Garrard motor. This one has not. The only inscription on the motor is “G G”. This points to an American machine. It has also been pointed out that the turntable top and plate are the same as the D2 and E2 and this together with the no.6 soundbox points to it being manufactured between 1918-1922. So we have determined it is an American machine and we have an estimated date of manufacture. Still not exactly sure which model this is and no images on the internet of a Grafonola that resembles it. |
