Judging from the delay line at the top of the 1st photo, it has a distributed Y amplifier?

I assume you mean the Tek 535A? I've got one too, and it doesn't have a distributed Y amplifier. The delay line is between the Y amplifier and the plates, I think, so you can see the point that the timebase triggered from. There's a complicated procedure in the manual for twiddling all the inductors and capacitors in the delay line to get the trace to look right. I've never touched mine!

I think Bob was referring to the CT52, yes I noticed the delay line too. Indeed it is there so you can see the signal at and slightly before the point of triggering. Often the distributed circuit is replaced by a coiled length (20-30 M?) of coax.
Martin, yes it is very much a TV crt made by Brimar like you say with P7 phosphor.
An LF "Polyskop" but with a twist, the input stage detects frequency as well as amplitude so can be used with an external frequency souce glide tone etc.
Cheers, Rob.

Yes the CT52 does indeed have a delay line. It was included so the CT52 could be used to observe short pulses, such as from radar equipment. When this function was in use the signal was applied directly to the Y1 plate of the crt with no amplification possible so a signal of at least 30V was required from a low impedance source (ideally 75 ohm). The delay was about 0.5 microsecond which was enough to enable the timebase sweep to get started properly so that the leading edge of the triggering pulse could be seen.

The CT52 was designed as a small portable scope for services use anywhere in the world as it was fully tropicalised and able to work from almost any ac mains supply between 100 and 250V, 50 to 500 Hz, or from 24V dc. The full set came in a case with the two psu's either of which could be attached to the rear of the main chassis, although the 24V dc version was apparently designated as CT84. The CT52 had a modest performance by the standards of the laboratory scopes of that period; but then it could also lifted and carried without risk of serious injury.

The last few years I have picked up a few projects from silent key clearouts. below are some thumbnails of three oscilloscopes that one of my friends Gunnar built back in the 1970s.

The largest scope has a 5UP1 crt and plug in timebases made from side contact valve bases.

The slightly smaller scope has a German WWII CRT and EHT transformer but what from I do not know.

The third scope is Gunnars first transistor version and based on a PW design I think, constructed in the early 1980s.

The transformers are home wound by Gunnar, I have not applied power to any of these because they would need checking for defective capacitoprs etc etc. I have not got the heart to get rid of them either.

Nothing very special here :

Solartron CD1400 (dual beam, 15MHz or so). I do have all 3 of the different timebase modules for it (normal, extended range, and delayed, the last being the one I normally use). I may even have the XY plugin somewhere.

Tek 551 (dual beam, one timebase). In need of restoration

Tek 555 (dual _everything_ -- 2 beams, 2 timebases, 2 EHT supplies, 2 boxes). A real
Tektronix work of art. Even the heater supply is regulated -- and the RMS value is what is measured there. Quite a few plug-ins (1A1, 1A5, 1A7 (in need of repair) 1S1 (with the special cathode follower probe), M, K, L, etc)

I seem to collect logic analysers, though....

When the fuse of the work room is only 10A you have a 50/50 chance that the 551 will shut down the light when switching ON ...
I love that old scope. The 555 will not do that about the saturation reactor, this works like a soft start.

Logic Analyzers: my 7844 holds a 7D01/DF2 in the scope cart, this is the only one I have.

good morning.

Today I will have a long ride to pick up a Tek 564 (noA) with Scope Cart, camera C12, 3A6, 3B3, 3B4, 3T2, 3S2, S1, S2, S3, S4, 2A61, all manuals and some other things.
This nice Oldie have a amazing UHF instrumentation.

hello Tony,
have fun to restorate the 551. See http://www.wellenkino.de/forum/threa...d=1&thread=187 this is my last job, using simple windwows cleaning fluid.

greetings
Martin

@avocollector - I don't recognise that Cossor (the one that isn't a 339) - can we have more pics/info please?

I've got the same Philips, too. A Dutch friend has been kind enough to translate the manual of the model before it (uses A-series rimlock valves, but I'm hoping there's at least a bit of circuit similarity) into English, which'll be up for download on my 5655 page eventually

A new addition to my collection, a HP 150A oscilloscope with 151B high gain amplifier plug-in. I have given it a clean inside and out as it was very dusty and interestingly found a few replacement Tek valves fitted, presumably during past servicing/repairs.

Its a late model from the last 2 years of production (S/N prefix 048), the 150A appears to have had a bad reputation for being very unreliable, but they must have built quite a lot of these though as the serial number on mine is over 4000.

More information on the HP 150A here at the HP memory project;

a Tek 564 with his scope mobile 201-2, camera C12 - 3B3 - 3B4 - 3T2 sampling sweep - 2A61 - 3A6 - 3S2 with s1, s2, s3 complete set, s4

s4 is a <25ps head and may be one of the fastest.
goes now in restoration.

After reading a few pages of this thread, I realise that by not throwing something away thirty years ago, someone may benefit. I just searched the thread and there is no mention of the little scope I have here. A Telequipment D34, a dual beam, Field Engineer's battery operated (option) scope. I remember using it a fair bit in the late seventies, early eighties and it was a nice, useful little scope.

It is still in its nearly bomb proof leather carrying case, less the carrying strap for some reason and still has the mains lead and a couple of probes. The last time I tried it, there was a fault with the time base and that was so long ago, I don't want to put mains voltages on it to find out if anything else works.

If anyone is interested who can give it a good home, then contact me through the mods, because I doubt if I have PM privileges yet. I live in South London (SW16), so that should give you some idea.
