I have recently realised that the Beeb has made available back issues of the Radio Times back to 1923. Good to see what was originally heard on my radios - I just wish the programmes were available!

Sometime back in the 1980's, I cut a small section from a feature which appeared in the Radio Times which amused me. However, I didn't make a note of the author or the date of publication. Given a few hours, or maybe a day or two, I guess I might find it on that site

Yes the Radio Times [not a BBC Property now of course] linked that in with their own new venture ie selling printed, relatively recent, back issues [when they are available]. I think RT must have realised that lots of people collect back numbers and that they can fetch high prices. The Westminster Borough Library in London [not the one in Parliament] used to have a full RT run and staff were very helpful when I contacted them for information re my own collection. It wouldn't surprise me if they have now been dumped given what happened to books from one of the London Universities that were found in skips.

I suspect the Radio Times are still available in Westminster Library but you probably need to request them. I used to read old copies of Punch in Croydon Library but these were taken off site available at a few days notice. Another little pleasure made harder.

Possibly access is made more difficult to reduce useage and prolong the life of the magazines? They won't have an indefinite life, after all...
Regarding the link in the first post, yes it is really useful, I have looked at back issues several times for different reasons! It's a good resource. |
