Radio Normandy [Normandie] and Mr "Plug"
One of the stories in last night's rather interesting edition of Coast BBC2! Was it accurate?

I noticed one of the end credits listed was the "Washford Radio Museum" so perhaps it was.

Not sure what story you are referring to but Captain Leonard Plugge was a very remarkable and enterprising chap.
A broadcasting pioneer-visionary-cum-revolutionary and an early developer of car radios who I think was also an MP in later life. |

Re: Radio Normandy [Normandie] and Mr "Plug"
It was indeed interesting.
It sort of ties up with what Wikipedia says (of course, the usual generous sodium chloride proviso applies here!) and with what I remember of the R4 Archive Hour on the subject from last year. The BBC's sense of entitlement seems shocking nowadays- but I guess that there was a lot more expectation of deference, fore-lock tugging and general do-as-I-tell-you then. |
