Default British National Radio School - DIY Oscilloscope

As per my other thread here ----> https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=62750

I'm looking for information about a self-build oscilloscope I bought many years ago but never got built.

The pictures can be seen in the other thread, I'm after the build instructions or circuit diagrams if anyone still has then kicking about the place.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave.

Hi Dave, I have the details of various Philips design students scopes that use similar valves. If you are over near the Metro centre you can give me a call and look at them.
It may be possible they are the same, or you may be able to build something similar.

Do you have a parts list?

Hi Ed,

I believe I've actually visited you on a previous occasion, you donated some valve bases to me for an amplifier I was planning on building (was based on KT88's in push pull) but that didn't get made in the end. I was the nutter that arrived on the motorbike.

Anyway, unfortunately I don't have any details about the 'scope other than the parts I have in the box. It was partially built when I received it, but with no instructions and pieces hanging off I decided to strip it down completely so I could start fresh.

I have just remembered that I think the senders name is still on the box, I wonder if he's someone on the forum?

Dave.

Hi Dave, Just read your post. I have one of these. Still work's as far as I know. First thing I ever built back in 1978, and an expensive course. I think I still have a circuit diagram for it, and the all the buff some where. I will have a look tomorrow.
All the best.

Hi Mark,

I'd be extremely grateful if you could locate this information, I hate having it laying about unbuilt with all the parts there!

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, Dave.

Hi Mark, got your email. Its ok about not being able to scan it, I dont mind as I have the main bit I was after which is the circuit diagram.

I believe I can pretty much work it all out from there if need be. Does the manual have the tagstrip diagrams showing part placement?

Thanks, Dave.

Hi Bumblebee,
Reading an old thread, I notice you had a manual for the valve Learnakit scope. Have you still got this, and if so,would you be prepared to sell it or a copy of it?
Thanks.

Hi Bumblebee,

I have just received the disc and looked at the manual. It has brought back many memories.

As I read through the manual, I remembered various stages of the building of the two valve oscilloscope. I remember sitting a the table with bits of partly built scope and wondering what it was all about! I cannot remember how much it cost for the course, only that I paid about 50p a week for the course. Getting a stage at a time to build and then go over some course work. When I finished building the oscilloscope, it would not work. The mains transformer had a shorted turn and had to be replaced. Once replaced, the scope worked just fine and I had to then use it for a number of experiments into electronics. I am not sure how many experiments, I think it may have been up to 40. I was this manual, a construction document and another document outlining all the experiments – I think?

Anyway, it was money well spent! There must have been thousands of these courses sold over the years. I am surprised that information on them is so hard to find. Maybe someone should start a web site on the subject!

Haven’t switched the oscilloscope on for many years so I expect the capacitors have dried out, so I would need to replace all of them. Having said that, there were not that many components altogether. It just seemed that way all those years ago! What I would like to do with the manual is to write it out using a suitable font like courier and use the original diagrams. Then have a single PDF file. That is something for later. Thanks for the tremendous amount of work you have put into getting this manual into PDF files. Must have taken quite a while?

Thanks,
Phill1029

Hi All
I came acoss this forum after searching for information on the LearnaKit scope. I have just bought a Hameg HM203-4 scope off Gumtree for 13 pounds and the chap kindly gave me an old LearnaKit scope and some course notes. The scope seems to be in Ok condition though I sure some bits will need replacing. I would love to get this scope going again and wonderef if anyone might have any construction notes for this.

Regards
Anthony

Hi Antony
I have just seen your request for notes on the "Lernakit" Oscilloscope.
My father who passed away some years ago had an oscilloscope which he probably built, I also have the notes on it as well, if any of this is any use to you I would like to hear from you, as my mother passed away this year so I have been clearing out her loft and found the oscilloscope, which she had kept.

Kind Regards

Lynne

Hi all, just stumbled across this forum. With a house move coming up I came across my old Lernakit Oscilloscope, to my amazement it still worked!! I have all the documentation for it if any one would like copies. I see a previous post was asking about the make of the CRT, it was a Mullard. I still have the guarantee for mine, probably run out now as it was some 41 years ago that I built it. When I get time, after the move, I might have a play with it and see what use I can put it to.
