I've just dug out something I had almost forgotten about, an Arduino 'Micro' which surprisingly turns out to have 2.5KB of RAM, a little bit more than the CPU used in the UNO. I'm going to experiment with downloading the whole Intel Hex file straight into a very big array without processing it at all, then working through it to see if it is a valid Intel Hex file. If that works I may use it as the basis for the controller to drive Chris's PCB with.
