On the subject of hybrids....
Back in the early 70's there were adverts in WW, PE etc offering new AVO 8 movements which were surplus spares. (£6-19/6 if I remember)
Then in wireless world, there was an article on making an electronic multimeter around such a movement.
So there have beed some wilder hybrids based on AVOs.
