I'm following this thread with great interest, as I too was a frequent visitor to the electrical counter in my local Woolworths (Witney, Oxon) back in the mid-late 60s and early 70s.

I've attached scans of the information leaflet available at the counter, detailing the range of wires and cables they sold (all imperial sizes, of course). I've kept it all these years to remind me of the cable types used before the fixed T&E mains wiring cables went metric and solid core.

I still use some Woolworth's Christmas lights bought over 25 years ago, but the push-in 12V @ 1.1W lamps are beaconing increasingly difficult (and expensive) to procure.
