Indeed, although I do tend to subscribe more to the shango066 method of it'll either work or smoke, output grid couplers if wax, have to go before the set sees power since the rest of the parts are easier to source/fix if they smoke whereas OPT's and power amp valves are not.
Another bodge I've been known to perpetrate on sets to see if they're any good prior to proper work, is to just series the waxies with appropriate values on the assumption they're shorted anyway. Worst it's caused me so far is motorboating, and guarantees no DC where AC ought to be. (of course that's a case of do as I say not as I do, since it's a blatant bodge but suits me for very basic temporary testing)
