Heatsinks are often put inboard for safety. First thermal. And secondly sharp edged heatsinks outside. I recently sold an Audiolab 5 channel home theatre amp (I bought two) with all the heatsinks inside.

Inboard heatsinks do need lots of ventilation slots in the casework.
