Default Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky

Yes the CT52 does indeed have a delay line. It was included so the CT52 could be used to observe short pulses, such as from radar equipment. When this function was in use the signal was applied directly to the Y1 plate of the crt with no amplification possible so a signal of at least 30V was required from a low impedance source (ideally 75 ohm). The delay was about 0.5 microsecond which was enough to enable the timebase sweep to get started properly so that the leading edge of the triggering pulse could be seen.

The CT52 was designed as a small portable scope for services use anywhere in the world as it was fully tropicalised and able to work from almost any ac mains supply between 100 and 250V, 50 to 500 Hz, or from 24V dc. The full set came in a case with the two psu's either of which could be attached to the rear of the main chassis, although the 24V dc version was apparently designated as CT84. The CT52 had a modest performance by the standards of the laboratory scopes of that period; but then it could also lifted and carried without risk of serious injury.
