At the risk of sounding 'boring', you can replace the mains flex with another two cored type, but fitting a three cored one is a 'modification' and can have 'consequences' legally if anything went wrong with the set and caused an 'incident' anywhere.

I have one of these sets and it still has a two core 'flex' fitted. When the back cover is in place there's no metal parts to touch, so no need for an earth, which could have been fitted by the manufacturers originally due to it having transformer isolation, but they didn't. These sets wouldn't conform to modern safety standards even with the original back cover fitted anyway.

As said, I can assure you that there are certainly two capacitors in the audio amplifier output stage which MUST be replaced if they haven't already been replaced by somebody else in the recent past, so please check.
