If you can find someone to fit the new stylus for you, you can then see if it improves the sound quality. I recently bought a SRP31D in very nice condition.The guy had replaced the 8TA with one of the amazingly cheap Chinese ceramic cartridges - LP stylus only - and it works very well. He said the 8TA had failed, so maybe yours is on the way out.
