Default Technics ST-S505L Muting issue

Hi

I am trying to rescue a Technics ST-S505L tuner. It had a short which was preventing it from turning on. It turned out to be a random leg from a component but I did not see where it came from. I must have dropped in there.

It now works but there is distortion for a few second when you switch between presets or retune. It settles down after a few seconds but it is annoying.

Could it be a failing transistor? I am not an electronics expert and am just having a go at fixing it. I can solder and test components with a dvm and transistor tester but I do not want to start randomly pulling out components.

I originally started by replacing the power supply board caps as the display was dimming with the beat of the music *had this before on another Technics Tuner). This is now cured but this new problem has developed.

I also managed t break one of the pins on the vfd display while trying to remove the leaking memory back up super capacitors but have fixed this by soldering in a thin piece of wire.

I really want to make this right.

Any guidance or help would be appreciated

Thanks
