If you have a multimeter, set it to ohms and check across T5 and T6. If this shows a dead short, it may be that the dial-off-normal contacts across the receiver are not opening when the dial is at rest - try disconnecting wire 1 (brown) and/or 2 (slate) from the dial to check whether this restores sound in the receiver. Otherwise, there should be a crackle in the receiver as the meter is connected or removed.
