Probably the best Philips CRT IMHO was the 29" 4:3 version which used the ESF gun assembly and suffered the same fate. The flagship MD2.1 used it (the one with the glossy wooden cabinet) and was noticeable better than the already good 28" EAK. JVC and Toshiba used the same CRT and I've replaced several of these over the years as they were so good customers were prepared to spend a fortune on new CRTs!
