Got me out of a hole yesterday, going camping and my generator packed it, I made a new magneto on it yesterday.
I know the feeling, I'm winding toilet rolls on a Meccano winder . . . I use a lathe to turn up slightly tapered mandrels to slide the rolls onto, and then lots of masking tape to hold everything tight.

The results are close to 1920's standard & can look very pretty.

Counting . . . I just concentrate & hope the phone doesn't ring!
