Default Re: A question about overhead phone-lines.

I was a Post Office Youth in Training, joining in 1963. After 3 months with an overhead gang and 3 other 3 monthly rotations with fitters, u/g mace and internal construction I eventually spent a year on dual maintenance and finished up with my own crown decorated minivan as a subs' app and lineman.
At the time 40lb cadmium copper was on its way out and drop wires 1 and 2 were becoming the order of the day. As a new linesman I still regulated slack 40lb CC drop offs (as per training at Shirehampton training school) usually caused because the last bloke had changed to a drop wire on the other side of the pole and caused the pull to unbalance. I eventually joined the club and did what the rest did.
After a couple of years I started as an exchange maintainer, eventually leaving after 20 odd years to become a special faults investigator and back to climbing poles again ! I still have a couple of line vices and all of the tools to terminate and join 40lb
