I have a lavishly illustrated RGD catalogue for model year 1939. it shows as an option an "Armchair control box" This would sit on the arm of your chair and connected to the radioconsole and radiogram models via a cable. It had a row of push buttons for station select.

For the top end sets only of course, which were very expensive. Up to 110 guineas in 1939!
