I bit the bullet and removed the faulty ULA and used the desoldering device! Not too bad for a first attempt-though one of the socket holes looks tinged! I’ve tested the connection and it’s still intact it seems - honest comments welcomed. Not sure I am confident enough to solder in the new replacement though.
