It does seem a shame to use solid state devices in that radio ... any radio, come to that ... a couple of GZ34s would have done nicely!

Thing about transistors, in my experience at least, is that they always blew and protected the fuses. And they wouldn't just wear out slowly like valves; they're a bit like pigs - they either go, or they don't.

But the level of miniaturisation by that Japanese gentleman is, in my eyes, nothing short of miraculous.
