I must be one of the minority that didn't mind these. The faults were all pretty straightforward from what I can remember. Line tearing caused by a dried up capacitor on the LT, audio IC's, dirty speed switch on the turntable and various faults caused by the jungle IC (TDA8180 I think), the modification to fit the replacement type was straightforward.
Can understand the bit about carrying one from an upstairs flat and the size of the thing.
