There is a line-of-thought which would say that getting rid of the less-desirable/poorer-condition members of a set-of-things increases the value of the better-condition things which remain.

Not that I'm justifying wanton scrappage - but the value of something is only ever what someone's prepared to pay for it. Even amongst the radio-collectorati gathered at RWB - there are some radios whose value is perceived as essentially zero because nobody bought them.
