Ah the good old wax capacitors: vintage electronics would be no fun without them!!
So in fact, the phono stage was working OK as confirmed by the voltage readings on V1 & V2. It may have been V3 that was unhappy due to the leaky coupling caps although there is a cap (C19, C119) in the grid of V3. That may also be leaky.
