I used a 7BP7 long persistance tube for SSTV years ago for both receiving and as a flying spot scanner. The blue emission is at least an order of magnitude brighter than the yellow afterglow so in practice it works fine as a flying spot scanner.

The afterglow is only really visible in a darkened room and generally didn't last long enough to view a complete SSTV frame so I used a Polaroid 'scope camera to capture images!
