I thought both my examples (both in need of total restoration) were both 339's but it turns out ones a 339A the only external difference I can see is the CRT phosphor on the 339A is brilliant white, where as on the 339 is sort of a pale grey/green) If you can get to your it would be good to know if you observe the same.
I am not in a position to pull them apart at the moment but maybe later.
