Why? What else could they be? There is one winning bidder and there are several non-winning bids. "Not to win" means "to lose", right?

No, you're missing the point. There's nothing wrong with auctions
per se. If you don't like "not winning", just don't participate in the auction! Otherwise, don't complain when others - dealers included - are willing to pay more than you, so they "win".
