Oh dear - unsuccessful power up, with lamp limiter of course.

No sound whatsoever, only a very faint mains hum!

Bulb in set glowing very dimly, orange in fact, while bulb in lamp limiter was very bright!!

Switched wavebands and turned tuning knob, but nothing.

I could see that the two non-metallised valves were glowing dimly - all valves were checked for heater continuity.

Takes deep breath ...
