There is a commonly-given corollary of Murphy's Law :

'A transistor protected by a fast-acting fuse will protect the fuse by blowing first'

My experience though suggests :

'A transistor protected by an expensive very-fast fuse will first fail short-circuit, ensuring the fuse fails too'
