Hi Horacebatchelor,
Just need to start with the basics if you want to learn to read those manuals. Some theory learned and the simple circuits in most 1950/60s domestic radios will be understandable.
Start with this from Paul Stenning and then perhaps some books, GN Patchetts Radio books are full of good information. Lots of others, MG Scroggie wrote the excellent series Foundations of Wireless.
Learn some theory and it will be a lot clearer.
