Phil,

The serial number of a 47A should be on the scale plate. It could be that the movement has been replaced if there isn't one. It wasn't until the 1970s that sticky labels came into use and the newest 47A I've seen was 1948.

The scaleplate of a 47A would have been hand calibrated and most would have the figures written in by hand too. This would normally include the serial number.
