I note that the glide meter has a shunt resistor across it, R9, which is 50 ohms, and that may alleviate any excess current in the meter, depending on the resistance of the meter itself, which I can't find given in AP1186.

Do the meter readings which bother you occur in the "COURSE" or "GLIDE" settings of the service switch on the control unit? Given the glide meter is only of interest in GLIDE, the designers may have thought that what the meter does in COURSE is of no interest (provided it doesn't burn out of course!)
