That sounds like a BSR McDonald MP60. I had one of these that I picked up for a tenner when I was 16. The rim drive and autochanger mechanism are the same as contemporary BSR changers fitted to the likes of Fidelity stereos. They do rumble a bit and would probably struggle with a 1.5 gram tracking weight.
