I get that from my local pharmacy (what used to be called the 'chemists' years ago ) under the name citric acid monohydrate. Not only does it do a splendid job of de-scaling the kettle, it is also a lot cheaper than the many commercial products available in supermarkets which are intended to be used for that job.
But I've never tried it for the purposes described here in this thread . . . . yet.
