My comments about ERP are purely based on the fact that sometimes you'll see a transmitter has an ERP of say 160 kW but the actual transmitter is only 7.5 kW (I'm thinking of Rowrige on Isle of Wight) so it's still only 7.5 kW. Aerials cannot add power that's my point and my real dislike of it. I definitely see your point, an inefficient areal will lose some power, but a decent one will radiate most or all of it.
