The interesting factor is that the damping factor of an audio amplifier is broadband. The output impedance might start ncreasing towards the top end of the audio range as loop-gain gets lower, but it won't be bad. The amp will respond well to load fluctuations.

The original scheme of a carbon pile reg operated by a solenoid can only respond slowly to load variations, so the supply is essentially unregulated in the short term.

The avionics gear being powered had to be designed to work with the latter scheme, so a big audio amp would be TLC in comparison.
