Just a quick note about my 'Best Friend' Bakelite hairdryer.

This hairdryer had been a bit of a gimmick as far as I was concerned as I did not have any real use for it. However it turns out to be great for drying my baby girl's hair as she is easilly spooked by the noise of modern hairdryers.

Years ago I had renovated the hairdryer by feeding a new mains flex through the best part of the old cotton outer braid of the original flex. However, the length of braid that was left once I had removed the worn bits was really too short to make a practical mains lead.
So in order to make it usable I had to fit a new lead. Fortunately old style braided cable can now be obtained quite easily. In order to fit a new lead I had to strip the hairdryer right down. It really is a tight squeeze to fit the motor, switches and wires in. It was a very nasty job and I hope I never have to do it again!

Anyway I now have a useful hairdryer. It is much lighter than other vintage hairdryers I have seen and only draws 650W. Check out the photos and note the lovely toggle switches.
