Thanks Frank, I'll have a peek at the electrolytic next time I take the panel off.

The cartridge, which rotates, has one needle marked 'LP' and the other marked '78'. Is there a chance the cartridge could damage a stereo LP? I had assumed it would play a stereo LP without damaging it, but it would just have mono sound.
