Thanks Nick. Photos attached - the sticky bits got a bit damaged but they stuck back OK without further glue. The peg which holds the deck in place depended on gravity, so I added a spring to push it down. Now the Open button works for the first time since I've had it. I suppose you have to choose between looking good and working well (in this case without a big rubber band round it).

This player looks great and sounds surprisingly good. Very clever design with the battery connections via springs and the recessed handle. No belts and the stepped capstan moves away from the idler wheel so it doesn't get dented.
