I would stick with the Philips CRT, it uses a lot less power than the horrible Plasma set does. As the Plasma is not HD the definition of the Philips will probably be better.
The Plasma also puts out a lot of noise and interference.
Going back to mains consumption The Philips CRT set would probably be rated at under 100w possibly as low as 70w wheras the Plasma set can use up to 400-500w and needs fans to keep them cool.
I would not allow a plasma set in my house, stick to the Philips CRT even though its approaching vintage its the better bet.
