Tim, it's random snow as well, like playing back a blank tape. There's only sound from the recorded test. I hit pause and it's still snow.

Pete, while it has a slider for record, I don't think it's the mechanical type. The SL-5000 is also indeed known as the SL-C6 (as Fivos pointed out). See here:
