I considered reverse protection for the PC-To MK14 LEDs as you have suggested but decided that the series resistance would be enough to keep the LEDs - which are themselves diodes, of a sort, safe for this experimental setup. I agree that powering the LEDs in series would also be perfectly valid.

I've never really looked into how much reverse voltage a LED can withstand.
