It’s worth checking first that the motor coil hasn’t burned out. These motors are inherently very reliable, but an open-circuit stator is terminal. With the lamp and kettle off, simply measure the DC resistance between the live and neutral pins of the plug. A reading of 5 to 11 kilohms is normal, lower suggests shorted turns, higher (infinity) suggests a burnt-out coil.
If using a digital multimeter, use a high ohms range to avoid confusion.
